Abel Bello, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive procedures, including surgeries using the da Vinci® surgical system. At MIB Surgery in Plantation, Florida, he performs bariatric surgery, reflux surgery, and specialized procedures using a flexible endoscope. As a skilled general surgeon, he treats hernias, gallbladder disease, thyroid disorders, cancer, and other abdominal conditions.

Dr. Bello started his medical career when he was only 14 years old, then went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine with honors from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

He received his surgical training in the United States, completing his general surgery training at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and Northside Regional Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Motivated by rapid advances in surgery, he continued his training, enrolling in a surgical fellowship in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Bello has many years of experience as a medical instructor and consultant. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and speaks at scientific conferences, presenting his extensive research in the areas of minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery. He remains actively involved in academic surgery and research, where he constantly evolves in tandem with advances in the surgery field so he can offer patients the best treatments.

Dr. Bello maintains membership in numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He’s also an active member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Association for Bariatric Endoscopy, and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons.
